about

Over three years ago, Silk Music released a forward-thinking progressive track called "North Circ" by a relatively unknown duo from England -- Solarity. Since that time, Nick and Alfie have gone on to release some of the most memorable progressive anthems and are now recognized around the world as leaders of the genre. Silk Digital is delighted to revive this classic and include in the package two inspired new remixes by Russian talent Oleg Izergin and the venerable Polish artist Kobana.

Solarity's "Original Mix" remains timeless: so-named for the road connecting East and West London, "North Circ" still evokes visions of a late-night drive through ominous terrain. A shuffling rhythm and delicate bassline begin to build in energy in the first half of the tune, portending something "lurking" in the shadows. Sure enough, we are met with a haunting lead melodic theme in the main break, which is reinforced by vocal stabs and the original bass progression.

Polish super-star Kobana have been summoned to lend some of his signature prog house "swing," as well as new variations on the original melodies. He succeed in accomplishing both objectives, as the percussion has a bit more hop, and the lead motif has been enhanced with additional layers, giving it even more emotional wallop. The most exciting part of the track is the main break, when the lead crescendoes to anthemic heights.

Although he remains an under-appreciated talent in progressive, Russian veteran Oleg Izergin deserves great praise for his standout remixes of various past Silk favorites, such as Claes Rosen's "Grenadines" and Kobana & Mario Hatchet's "Weekend Memories." A gut-busting bass and powerful and swing-y rhythm give his remix of "North Circ" a great dancefloor sensibility from the start. A plethora of "dancing" melodic effects and atmospheric touches round out the soundscape. Yet, arguably the most memorable moment of the release occurs in the main break, when a side-chained pad theme joins the memorable lead motif from the original. The result is veritable peak-hour madness, especially when the jubilant rhythm is re-introduced at the drop.
